Brees says Manning reached out after game
We noted this morning that Colts quarterback Peyton Manning went straight to the locker room following Super Bowl XLIV, rather than staying on the field and shaking hands with Saints players.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees says he was OK with that, because the field became a mob scene after the game.
"After that game was over it immediately became kind of a free for all," Brees said today on ESPNews. "I was trying to find him and I know that he was trying to find me, but it was too much of a crazy crowd."
Brees said that Manning contacted him by phone late Sunday night.
"I was able to talk to him after the game, just text messaging," Brees said. "Obviously, I have a lot of respect for him and I know that he was definitely congratulatory toward our team."
Brees doesn't think anyone should interpret Manning going straight to the locker room as a slight.
"Peyton's a class guy," Brees said. "He definitely reached out." |

Who cares? I am not going to hold it against Manning. He is a great QB that lost the game that 30 other QBs didn't get to.
From the overhead shots I have seen of the crowd after the game, I'd have left pretty quick too... Way too much is made of the after game congrat-handshake... After most games, sure,, but the crowd certainly wasn't a Colt friedly crowd...
I give Manning a pass,,, much to do about nothing. |

As I said later, not so much the handshake, but what did it say to his team mates. Probably nothing. Maybe I am making too much of it. All I know is when Moss did EXACTLY the same thing in a pretty MEANINGLESS game comparatively, he got raked over the coals. |

What's it Like Playing with Peyton Manning?
Prior to the game in an interview Boomer asked Freeney and Mathis this question and they both gave a half hearted laugh like it was a pain in the ass more than a privilege. I guess the guy is just real annoying being a perfectionist and all but with that last statement above, you may be on to something. I get the impression his team mates don't like him.. |

You posted a half truth. Manning was actually quite gracious to both Brees and the Saints organazation after the game. Just because he did not chose to search out Brees in a mob scene does not make him the classless act you've proclaimed him to be. You have a nasty habit of running with the first sound bite you hear. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but if I was a player and had just lost the Super Bowl, I wouldn't do any handshaking with the other team. You pour your heart and soul into a season and reach the cusp of your ultimate goal and come up short, I don't expect you to be anything less than completely devastated and shaking hands with the team that just beat your ass shouldn't rank very high on your list of desires at that moment.
If that makes me a poor sport, I'll accept that. |
