Wade has addressed the team, and basically told them to lay off the rookies. From DallasCowboy.com:
SAN ANTONIO - Every day during practice it seems all eyes are on rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant. That was true again Monday, but for the first time people were watching him for reasons other than his playmaking abilities.
Bryant made national and international headlines for refusing to carry Roy Williams' shoulder pads and helmet to the locker room Sunday, leaving fans and media interested to see if he would comply with the veteran's wishes a day later.
After every practice so far during training camp, Bryant has been one of the last players to leave the field, spending plenty of time with fans and the media. But when practice ended Monday he ran off the field immediately without signing autographs, talking to reporters or, most notably, grabbing up anyone else's gear.
Williams did stay and speak, though, discussing how he felt about the matter.
"I was never upset," Williams said. "I don't understand where everything is coming from. Like I said, you guys want to pit us against each other. If he doesn't want to take the pads, he doesn't have to take the pads. It's not a big deal, we'll just move on."
Wade Phillips addressed the situation with the team on Monday morning, and told the media what his policy is on rookies and their traditions.
"Rookies can play," Phillips said. "I treat them the same as the rest of the players. They're good enough to play and get on the field; they can earn it or not earn it. That's the way I treat them. I'm just saying if they don't believe they need to do that, then they don't have to do it."
Although Bryant won't be told to carry any pads after practice, Williams playfully said there would be repercussions later on.
"When we go out to eat," Williams said. "I'm going to be a little bit more hungry and a little bit more thirsty."

The bigger problem here is RW's attitude. I still don't think this guy takes football seriously. He's "dead man walking" on this team, I think.

I agree. IMO, he's akin to Marcellus Wiley. Wiley had one big year (under Wade coincidentally) and parlayed that into a career and reputation. By the time Wiley got here to bring a pass rush, he was done and and got exposed.

This is the exact same thing I have been saying. Honestly defusing this is one of the few really smart things I have noticed Wade doing since he has been coach.
Everyone on the team is there to play. Playing and winning is the priority. Carrying pads and other BS is fine if it is fun and games, if it isn't fun then it needs to stop.
There is no good reason for this to be a media controversy and a distraction when everyone involved has a job to do.

Exactly, years ago it was RARE for a rookie to start and/or contribute. So yes, carry my shit. Nowadays, rookies are as likely to start as some vets. That said, carry your own shit.
Dez was just the first shot fired. Others will follow.

And after the display of immature bullshit by spoiled athletes, Wad folds. Great way to start the season. I cannot believe anyone would use Wad as an example of how the nfl works.
It has nothing to do with how much they play. Please. Thats exactly the problem with players today. Unlesss someone wants to argue there is no problem with athletes today?

Dez learned a valuable lesson the week. Dont do anything that will make the media get an angle. From his annoyed answers to the questions and his answers today, he clearly regrets not just picking up the pads and carrying them.

After last night and this morning, I couldnt have imagined the argument getting any worse for you, but it just did.
Here are direct quotes from Dez himself that basically puts this one to bed:
Bryant said if he knew fully about the tradition of carrying veterans' shoulder pads and the media scrutiny for not carrying Williams', things could have gone differently.
"He could have walked in with his tights on, I would have took his shoulder pads, his pants, his helmet, his socks, his shoes, I would have took everything," Bryant said. "But you know what, that's not even an issue anymore."

The real surprise is that Wad actually had them wearing pads.

LOL! Excellent point! It must be our year!
Look at these homo's crying Em. Pretty funny. They are as weak minded as these spolied athletes. Poor Dez.
All business. Wearing tights, running with a ball for 6 months a year and filming reality shows. As fan boys we have to make sure we protect their integrity!
