Like I've mentioned in earlier posts recently, I'm really liking some of the youth on this team. Sean Lee, the Williams' from last years draft are making noise on D, Dez of course, the rookie 4th rd Safety looks like a future playmaker for us, and Phillips at TE. I think were going to see early 1990's type contributions from our rookies and 2nd year players this season and next..
Sean Lee mad he'll miss few more days

SAN ANTONIO – Second-round linebacker Sean Lee doesn't expect to practice for a few more days.
A strained quadriceps forced Lee to the sideline for Tuesday’s two practices. He hopes to be back on the field this weekend.
“It’s one of those things you’ve got to nip in the bud before it gets worse, but I’m rehabbing it nonstop and I’m going to try to get back as soon as possible,” Lee said. “Hopefully it’ll be as soon as possible, because you can’t get better sitting on the sideline. You can’t help the team when sitting on the sideline.”
Concerns about Lee’s right knee caused the linebacker the Cowboys graded as the No. 16 prospect on their board to slide toward the bottom of the second round. He had to redshirt two years ago at Penn State after tearing up the knee during spring drills.
The quadriceps injury isn’t considered serious, but Lee is rather perturbed about missing practices.
“It’s frustrating because you see guys making progressions when you’re on the sideline and you want to be out there competing every day,” Lee said. “That’s something I haven’t had a chance to do, but like I said, this is something you’ve got to take care of early or it can get worse.”
Linebackers coach Reggie Herring isn’t concerned that Lee, who learned the defensive scheme during OTAs and minicamp, will take a step back while sitting out to rest his quad.
“We know his character and his work ethic,” Herring said. “He’ll do everything he can to get back as fast as possible. That’s the first thing. The second thing is he’s a student of the game.
“Before he got hurt, he knew what to do, how to do it. He was having a nice camp. We’ve got a lot of confidence in his ability to know what to do. He studies the game. I would expect [after] the time that he’s missed, he will make a fast recovery. I would bet money on that.”
Herring lobbied hard for the Cowboys to draft Lee, and he had a lot of company among the team’s coaching staff, scouting department and front office.
Word is that Patrick Willis, San Francisco’s Pro Bowler, is the only inside linebacker the Cowboys gave a better grade than Lee in recent drafts.
(That is some high f'n praise right there...Willis is the best LB in the NFL right now)
Has Lee been everything Herring expected?
“That’s like asking you about your wife. Was she everything you expected after three months?” Herring cracked. “I mean, we gotta date a little bit here. We gotta play a game first.
“We’re very excited about Sean. I’m not going to declare anybody anything until they line up against NFL competition and prove it. Right now, he’s done a nice job at practice. He’s doing what we asked of him. He’s shown nice ability in the run and pass game. He’s a smart, instinctive player. So far, he’s everything we thought he’d be. So far. Now, let’s go play a few games and make an evaluation.”
For now, Lee’s focus in on returning to the practice field.

Best young players we have had in a decade. Plus the CBs. Felix/TC too. The OLBs are still young. Rats still young. Tree as well. Very necessary to have an influx of youth every year. We are finally getting it.
Disappointing to see Lee dinged again. And the safety hasnt played since last year. Still unable to play. We have to get look at him versus real players before we know what we really have. Measurables are nice.

Yeah, I think Lee and the rookie will be fine once they get back to practice. We knew the rookie Safety was going to be out for a bit, and he's going to take some time to develop, but his upside is huge if and when he does.
With Flo gone, the only plus 30 guys we have are:
Newman - but he's a young 32 considering he came into the league at 25.
Romo - but 30 at QB and especially him, should be his prime.
Columbo
Brooking - but he brings veteran leadership and we have his replacement on board already.
This team is young and talented and the depth is good. Would like to have a stronger option starting at FS, but Ball may be decent, plus we have the young guys up n coming, and would like to have a better backup QB option, but who wouldnt.
Now they just need to start the right guys and not get caught up in the money and egos and we should be good to go barring injuries.
And I agree, I think Felix and or Choice should be starting over Barber. That is the exact type of thing that makes me nervous about the executive branch of this organization. Hopefully it will all play out professionally and based on production without it costing us any games along the way.

Amazing. This was one of my biggest complaints after the 2007 season. I dont like keeping 30+ year old on the decline. The quick turn around is remarkable. Loaded at RB, CB, LB, WR, TE, all fairly young. DL is solid. Even the vet in the D backfield GS is only 25-26. And imagine if we didnt burn so many picks? Oh well.
Lee is from PA. PSU fans rave about him. The kinda player we need rather than some flashly player who lacks his fundamentals. Like Jason X! ;)
I am already disappointed with the MB talk. It does make me think its not about playing the better runner. No need to name starters now. Rewarding a guy for past performance should not be in the equation. This is football. 2 years for a RB is a lot. There is no guarantee MB returns to his old form. Felix was the better runner down the stretch and we can also use the threat of speed he provides as much as possible. Xs and Os.
